There are two teacher training courses running in 2010:
Weekdays – starts 25 January 2010
Weekends – starts 6 February 2010

Below is the course curriculum for Zen Ki Yoga Teacher Training. Courses that may be taken separately to teacher training (for your own personal development and self interest) include:

Several other courses may be offered to some people who are not doing teacher training depending on level of understanding and Zen Ki Yoga class attendance.

Teacher Trainers must complete:

  • Every subject listed above with a minimum of 90% attendance. If less than the required class/s are missed, students may make up time with their teacher trainer at an extra cost (if availability permits);
  • Must attend and complete three 10-day yoga detox/intensive programs at The Centre of Yoga;
  • One yoga retreat (date to be confirmed);
  • Attend the minimum requirement of extra classes for each term. There are 3 terms in total for teachers doing weekday training course:
    • Term 1 – Must attend a minimum of 3 classes/week. (25 January – 31 March/8 April - 30 April 2010) 13 weeks, 7 day break over Easter and then 2-week break before term 3.
    • Term 2 – Must attend a minimum of 4 classes/week. (14 May – 10 June/15 June – 15 August) 13 weeks. Break for June long weekend (11 - 14 June).
    • Term 3 - Must attend a minimum of 5 classes/week. (30 August – 30 Sept/13 Oct – 10 December) 13 weeks - 12 day break from 1 Oct – 12 Oct.

Zen Ki Yoga Special Interest Courses and Teacher Training Courses in more detail:

Zen Ki I (no prerequisite)
Basic Zen Ki yoga poses will be explored with relation to each meridian and how they are used to heal and change energy patterns. Students will gain a thorough understanding of correct execution of each movement and posture.

Zen Ki II (prerequisite = Zen Ki I)
This course will build on Zen Ki I – going further into poses and how they may work in combination with others. Students will also begin to work on specific corrections for misalignments in the spine, neck and hips.

Zen Ki III (prerequisite = Zen Ki I & II, A & P I & II)
Corrective poses and techniques will be further explored and refined. This course will work in relation with the A & P courses

Meridians (no prerequisite)
Students will learn what a meridian is and what are the specific meridian lines of the body. There will be a thorough breakdown of how each meridian relates to specific and non-specific emotional, physical, mental and behavioural issues to give an understanding of how the yoga postures and movements relate to each other.

Macrobiotics (no prerequisite)
Foods can heal our bodies, often faster than any other treatment. Each season will be focused on to learn how changing seasons, foods and lifestyle affect our body with specific information about how to use food to heal specific ailments.

Anatomy and Physiology I (no prerequisite)
Students will learn about the skeletal and muscular system including joints, ligaments, tendons, cells, tissues, body fluids, blood and their relationship. Individual attention will be spent on different systems of the body and their workings, such as:

Respiratory system
Digestive system
Nervous system
Circulatory system
Endocrine system
Urinary system
Reproductive system

Anatomy and Physiology II (applied) (prerequisite = A & P I)
A continuation of A & P I with concentration on how each body system relates to the meridian system. Muscle movement and skeletal alignment will be covered.

Disease – western -v- eastern approaches (teacher training only)
The history of western and eastern medical practice will be briefly covered. This course will examine differences between treating ailments and disease with western and eastern practices. Positives and negatives of each will be discussed.

Exploring Indian yogic techniques & practices (physiology)
     Philosophy & ethics
(teacher training only)
Students will gain an understanding of the most popular styles of Indian yoga (Hatha, Iyengar, Bikram, Viniyasa, Asthanga etc.) Chakras, Nadis, Koshas, Mudras and chanting etc will be learned in this course.

Yoga Philosophy (no prerequisite)
8 limbs of yoga, Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Sutras of Patanjala, YTAA Code of Ethics and Masahiro Oki’s philosophies will be covered in this course to give students a deeper understanding of the origins of traditional yoga and beyond.

About your trainer...

Janie Larmour is a level 3 yoga teacher and has been teaching yoga for 11 years and currently runs The Centre of Yoga in East Sydney. Janie has also been one of Sydney’s leading personal fitness trainers for the last 16 years and has travelled the world with clients to ensure their fitness needs. Her extensive experience, dedication and obsession with how the body works for optimum health will give you a deep understanding on every aspect of Zen Ki Yoga and you will come out of the course with the tools you need to relate your skills to the general public to be a successful teacher and healer.

This course is registered with the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia.

If there are certain subjects that cannot be fulfilled due to work commitments etc these subjects may be made up on weekends with the weekend Teacher Training course. Every effort will be made to co-ordinate this for everyone. If this applies to you, you must arrange this with The Centre of Yoga before enrolling to ensure your needs can be met.

  • A deposit of $855 must be paid to reserve your place. This must be paid when you hand in your registration form. You will receive a $100 discount on your first term if you pay your deposit by 20 December 2009.
  • A discount will be offered if paying in full before the commencement of the course. Cost will be $4750 if paying up front (save $380).
  • 10-day yoga detox/intensives are not included in teacher training fee. A discount will be offered to teachers - $240/program (full price is $310).
  • Classes are not included in the teacher-training fee. A discount for classes will be offered to teachers - Monthly pass = $140 (full price $160) or 10 pass $110 (full price $130)

Refund policy
Participants must give The Centre of Yoga a minimum of one month’s notice if withdrawing from the course in writing. In this instance an administration fee of $150 will be charged.

Participants who give less notice than one month will incur a fee of $550.

Participants who start the course (teacher training or individual special interest courses) will not receive a refund and cannot defer the course to another time.

Course times and dates for weekend teacher trainers

This course will run for 1 year. All of the subjects above will be covered over this time.

Classes will run on Saturday, 10 am – 6 pm & Sunday, 7 am – 5.30 pm (17 hours with breaks).

Teacher Trainers are still required to do the required classes per week.
3 classes per week for first term. Feb – April
4 classes per week for second term. June - Aug
5 classes per week for third term. End Sep - Dec

A deposit of $1,130 is due to reserve your place (and must definitely be paid before you commence. $100 discount is offered - $1, 030 deposit, if payment is made before 20 December). Then 4 payments of $1000 as in registration form or in full at the beginning of the course for the discounted rate of $4750 (see registration form).
